The Desert Rangers are a group of survivalists and vigilantes operating across the eastern part of the American Southwest that serve as a minor faction in Fallout: New California.

Background[]

By 2260, the Desert Rangers have begun to wane in power and numbers, becoming little more than ghosts wandering from town to town seeking to do good. Devastating battles against the rising Caesar's Legion in Arizona and New Mexico have forced them to look more and more to the New California Republic for support, while the growth of wasteland civilization under NCR and Legion rule renders their role as independent peacekeepers increasingly irrelevant.

When William Silverman went around his orders and contacted the Rangers for support against the Raider Alliance, with whom the Rangers had conflicted in the past, a squad of Rangers led by Kerry Vargas - the only ones available not fighting against the Legion - was dispatched to the Pass to assist NCR forces, arriving late November of 2260.[1] However, they were ambushed by the sudden Alliance advance into NCR territory, scattered and forced to work with the NCR simply to survive.

Behind the scenes[]

The Desert Rangers are, like in the canon Fallout series, a reference to the faction of the same name from the video game series Wasteland. Snake and Ace are references to Snake Vargas and Ace, who are respectively the leader and a member of the Desert Rangers in Wasteland.
