Lieutenant Chevy Bragg is the second-in-command of Vault 18 Security in 2260.

Background[]

Overview[]

Like her brother John, Chevy Bragg claims to come from an unknown vault located the plains of Idaho, but her true history is much more of a mystery.

Enclave[]

Chevy is actually the original Annai Oran, daughter of Senator Andrew Oran, who authorized Project Brazil experimentation on his daughter in a desperate bid to save her from a near-lethal disease.[1] Though successful, Annai would experience a number of devastating side effects unknown to them at the time. Originally intended for residence in Vault 18, she and her father were caught in a car accident on I-15 on the dawn of the Great War and barely made it to the vault, only for it to have already closed when they arrived. The senator died of his injuries, leaving Annai alone in the wasteland with her newly-discovered curse of immortality.

Somehow, she discovered the location of Control Station ENCLAVE and endured the boiling irradiated ocean waters to reach it, and upon arrival was locked up, tortured, and experimented on by Enclave personnel.[2][3] It was here that her brother John was created, cloned male when the Project Brazil parasite was starved of nutrients.[4] Ten years of torture and imprisonment eventually broke her and John, and they became loyal Enclave assets, with Annai suppressing her past and adopting the new persona of "Chevy Bragg" - Chevy after the Enclave officer in command, and Bragg after Enclave Bunker BRAGG, the twins' first deployment.[5] They were also involved in the Vault 13 operation in 2242 which led to the extermination of the intelligent deathclaws.[6]

She was eventually promoted to lieutenant and second-in-command of Enclave Squad Leonidas, a special ops unit specializing in vital stealth missions. She and John survived the destruction of Control Station ENCLAVE, and reunited with surviving Enclave personnel at Navarro. Here, they launched a retaliatory nuclear strike on San Francisco, mistakenly believing the Shi to be the culprits of Control Station ENCLAVE's destruction. When the New California Republic eventually captured Navarro, Chevy was among those captured and sentenced to jail.

Around 2250, Bragg escaped from prison and reunited with Squad Leonidas, whose still-loyal remnants were still operating along the eastern frontier of California. Chevy and John were assigned by the highest-ranking remaining commander, Colonel Autumn Senior, to infiltrate Vault 18 to recruit/enslave new Prime Normal humans into the Enclave's ranks and secure valuable intelligence stored within its databases. The Bragg siblings posed as destitute wastelanders when encountered by the Wasteland Scouts, who were searching for a replacement water chip after their vault's coincidentally ceased working - secretly remotely sabotaged by the Enclave. To ingratiate themselves with the vault, the Braggs guided them to Vault 16 and helped them breach it, then petitioned to be accepted into Vault 18 in exchange.

Vault 18[]

The Braggs, despite initial suspicions, were eventually accepted. Chevy rose to the lieutenant position of the security force due to her combat skills, as well as a series of "accidents" befalling those in her way, like then-lieutenant Dan Weathers. The average opinion of Bragg and her brother were as unlikable, but valuable, members of the vault community.

In truth, Chevy used her high-ranking position to support her brother's Patriot Program, arming the Patriots with heavy ordinance normally restricted to Vault Security, as her brother used his position on the Vault Council to undermine the vault's gun regulations. Chevy also provided her sense of discipline and military training to screen the Patriots for potential junior officers and break down their will through brutal indoctrination. However, Chevy and John's plans were forced into overdrive as Squad Leonidas was contacted by a mysterious individual in Washington D.C. known as "John Henry Eden" who claimed to be the rightful President of the United States of America, and urged all Enclave survivors to regroup in the Capital Wasteland at the Raven Rock facility. With their timetable bumped up to only a day, John pushed the takeover of the vault to occur the night prior to the election, when Vault Security was least prepared.

Personality[]

The perfect counter to her brother's gung-ho, all-American demeanor, Chevy Bragg is utterly restrained, ruthless, and professional. While utterly lacking in empathy or mercy, she displays a more pragmatic and disciplined attitude in combat, treating her enemies with a degree of professionalism, and even respect, but displays no qualms about ruthlessly murdering civilians or those who are of no use to her. Chevy has little to no tolerance for failure or incompetence, pushing her soldiers to the breaking point and beyond.

Notes[]

  • Chevy is notably almost completely unaffected by Speech checks. While checks will still succeed with the appropriate skill level, she reacts in a manner as if the check had failed.
  • Before fighting Chevy, an 88mm cannon with only one shell will be found. This cannon can be used to one-shot Chevy, but if you can't find it, you can try to stock up on AP 5mm or 5.56 bullets. These are crucial when fighting her. She is equipped with Enclave power armor and a unique and dangerously powerful plasma minigun. She doesn't have a helmet, it will seem as if she is equipped with one, taking little to no damage to the head. Unlike John Bragg, she cannot be affected by Speech checks to bypass the fight or weaken her in any way. Psycho and Med-X can help this battle. Once you beat her, it's best if you take the plasma minigun, making for an easier upcoming fight with John.
