Detailed Walkthrough[]

After the intro cinematic in which Coach Bragg gives a pep talk to the Vault Patriots ahead of the final game of the 2260 Vault Ball season, the Star Player is seen standing in the Vault 18 Gymnasium and Arena. They will grab the vault ball and rush to the enemy goal. However, the path will be obstructed by Johnny Matheson, a member of the rival Vault Barbarians, who is attempting to defend the goal.

There are two ways to advance to the goal and try to win the game: try to dodge Matheson, or try to charge through and tackle him. A prompt opens up for one to make the faithful decision.

Tackle[]

Choosing to tackle Johnny will lead to the Path of the Warrior. The Star Player will successfully manage to tackle through Johnny, breaking his kneecap in the process, and manage to make it to the goal and win the game. Living up to their title as the "Star Player," everyone in the Vault will praise them for their success.

After making that choice, one will be given the opportunity to customize their character. After that is done, the Star Player will be transferred into Coach Bragg's office.

Coach Bragg will explain that the Star Player is now his star athlete and that their performance in the game has earned them a position to get any available job they want in the Vault. However, he then informs the Star Player that the administrative staff wants them to work in the maintenance department, but that he personally recommends a position with Vault Security instead. Bragg will then tell them to go to the Vigor Tester machine, allowing them to choose their SPECIAL stats. After finishing the test, the player character will advance to level 2 and be able to choose traits, skills, and other character setup.

If Bragg was not previously told off with an insulting or cowardly dialogue option, he will then want the Star Player to report their results to him. With Strength 6+, Charisma 6+, and Endurance 6+ (as well as Science 20+, though he does not care about it,) the Star Player will earn his respect, and he will allow the player character to join his "afterschool program" if they so wish; one will also be given the Born Soldier perk. He can then be asked some questions about his past and his belief in "America."

In any case, Bragg will direct the Star Player to see Chevy Bragg next. The quest will then complete and Report To Vault Security will start.

Dodge[]

Choosing to dodge Johnny will lead to the Path of the Scientist. The player character will fail to dodge Johnny and get their left leg broken in the process and then will be taken to the Vault clinic; thus, the Star Player ironically loses the game, and everyone in the Vault either shows pity or looks down upon them for losing an important match.

After making that choice, one will be given the opportunity to customize their character. After that is done, the Star Player will wake up in the clinic in the Vault 18 Atrium.

After waking up, the Star Player will immediately fall to the ground from their injury. Dr. Rossman will explain that after the events that transpired in the field, the player character is an entitled nerd of the Vault and always has been, and that their only opportunity left is to work in the Vault's technology department (and will even blow off any disparaging remarks made towards him.) He mentions tasks in the computer lab for them to complete and tells them to use the clinic Vigor Tester machine. Rossman can also be questioned for information on his role in the Vault and his distrust of Coach Bragg. After finishing the test, the player character will advance to level 2 and be able to choose traits, skills, and other character setup. The quest will then complete, and Fix The Old Computer will start.
